Welcome to Mrs. Burt's Classroom Page

Contacting Me
email
Hello and welcome to my teacher web page! If at any time you have questions or concerns, it is always best to email me: [email protected]
I will usually respond within one school day of your email. Please note this will not count weekends or holidays.
Students are expected to utilize email as a primary contact method and use the appropriate email etiquette.
Grades
grades
Grades are posted first to Schoology and then synced over to Skyward. Students should:
  1. Check Schoology for their individual assignment grades
  2. Check Skyward for their overall course grade
If there are any questions or concerns regarding grades, please email me with the specific assignment or grade issue. Please be as detailed as possible and make sure that grades have been checked in both Schoology and Skyward.

Assignments
schoology

All assignments are posted to Schoology for students. There are a couple of ways to access them. I have walk-throughs linked below to aid students in accessing assignments and grades in Schoology.
I do not accept email submissions for any reason. All digital submissions need to be turned in to Schoology (all assignments have submissions enabled) with no exceptions. Additional support for turning in work digitally is linked here.
If a student is absent, they will have 5 days from their return to make up the assignment. Late work will be accepted until 5 days after the due date for up to 80% of the earned points.
For additional information, please refer to the student handbook linked in the student section of Siegel High School's website.

Traditional vs. Flipped Classroom
This class is designed with a flipped classroom approach. Students are assigned pre-recorded lecture notes for homework and are expected to watch, take notes, and complete the practice problems introducing the topic. At the beginning of each period, there is time to review questions and address misunderstandings. This approach frees up class time to address misconceptions after content has been presented and allows us to practice together rather than on our own.
lab
This class will have several labs throughout the year tied to standards we are learning at the time or have already covered in the past. I recommend that students purchase their own set of goggles for labs (they can reuse them in college as well):

I also recommend that students purchase a review book. There are great ones out there and any of them will do as long as it is used. Some of my more strongly recommended ones are:

All lecture videos are posted here. They are organized by units in playlists:
Unit 1 - Atomic Structure and Properties
Unit 2 - Molecular and Ionic Compound Structure and Properties
Unit 3 - Intermolecular Forces and Properties
Unit 4 - Chemical Reactions
Unit 5 - Kinetics
Unit 6 - Thermodynamics
Unit 7 - Equilibrium
Unit 8 - Acids and Bases
Unit 9 - Applications of Thermodynamics
