Move Over Law
Added Apr 17, 2020 •
On February 16, 2016, Tennessee Highway Patrol Troopers partnered with Tennessee Department of Transportation HELP Operators for Operation SOS - Safety Operations on the SmartWay.
The Move Over enforcement effort comes on the heels of a year of tragedy for TDOT. In 2016, three TDOT workers were struck and killed while on the job, including HELP Truck Operator James "J.R." Rogers.
By law, Tennessee motorists are required to move over for stopped emergency vehicles, including HELP trucks and other highway maintenance vehicles.
