JANUARY 18, 2019

 

Sheltia S. Murray Scholarship - This scholarship is awarded to a student who will a freshman for the fall semester of 2019 with a minimum 3.0 GPA and has a minimum ACT score of 22. The deadline for the application is April 27, 2019. Students must have a sealed recommendation letter, ACT scores, transcript, and an essay to apply. Applications are available in guidance.

 

Sorority 101 - The Nashville Area Panhellenic Alumnae Association presents a comprehensive guide to everything you need to know about sororities and the recruitment process. This program will be held on Sunday March 3, 2019 from 1-3. Go to www.nashvillepanhellenic.org to register for free.

 

Student View Scholarhsip – This scholarship program offers seniors scholarship for filling out a survey and students are chosen at random to win. Go to www.student-view.com to complete your entry.

 

University of Mississippi - The Chancellor’s Leadership class is open to students admitted to the University of Mississippi for the fall of 2019 and have completed the Entering Freshman Special Programs and Scholarships application. If you would like to be nominated please see your counselor. This program also offers a $1000 scholarship.

 

UTC The Majorie Watson Mathematics Scholarship - This scholarship is intended for an incoming freshman at UTC majoring in math. This is a $5000 scholarship. Application material include a letter of application stating interest in a math degree, two letters of recommendation (one which must be from a math teacher), and your high school transcript and ACT. Rutherford Education Association Scholarship - This scholarship offer a one time scholarship to a Rutherford County senior who wants to pursue a degree in education. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Students will submit a completed application, an essay, two letters of recommendation, and official transcript with ACT scores. The deadline is April 8, 2019. Applications are available in guidance.

 

JANUARY 11, 2019

 

Sigma Gamma Rho – This scholarship is sponsored by the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. This application is open to seniors who have high scholastic achievement as well as community service and extracurricular activities. The deadline is February 19, 2019. Students must provide a copy of their high school transcript as well as a 100-150 essay describing their accomplishments. The application is available in guidance.

 

Middle Tennessee Association of Realtors - This scholarship is open to students who will be incoming freshman at MTSU, Motlow, or TCAT. This scholarship is for the fall of 2019 and the spring of 2020. This application is based on your GPA, extracurricular activities, student need, a student narrative, and an interview with finalists. The scholarship is $500 per semester. The deadline to apply is April 5, 2019 at 4:30 pm. Applications are available in guidance.

 

Youth Leadership Rutherford – This program is available to current junior students who have a 2.75 GPA or above, demonstrated interest in leadership and personal growth opportunities, and a commitment to completion of the program. This is sponsored by the Rutherford County Chamber of commerce. Students who are chosen will meet with members of the community once a month with other youth leadership participants. Mississippi State University - Academic Insight day for 2019 are as follows:

February 16 – College of Ag & Life Sciences, Forest Resources, Architecture, Art & Design, Business, and the Veterinary Medical Technology Program

February 22 – Bagley College of Engineering

February 23 – College of Education and the Arts & Sciences.

These weekends are geared towards incoming freshman. These are ½ day events desgined to give students and parents the opportunity to meet with departmental reps and meet with current students within their intended college.

 

Scholars Academy (MTSU) - This program which lasts from August 11-22, 2019 is designed for first generation and Pell eligble students to acquaint themselves with MTSU before the school year begins. Students can apply at https://www.mtsu.edu/studentsucess/scholarsacademy.php for this program.

 

DECEMBER 7, 2018

 

Rutherford Works High School Internship Program - This program is available to current high school juniors who are US citizens and have reliable transportation. Students must apply and interview, complete an 8 hr pre-employment training, participate in a 4 hr work based learning workshop each week, work at least 16 hrs per week during the month of June, and participate in team presentations at the end of the program. Students will earn $10/hr. Applications will open on January 11th, 2019 and the deadline to apply is February 8, 2019. Go to www.rutherfordworks.com to apply.

 

NOVEMBER 30, 2018

 

Discover Student Loans Scholarship Award - This program is open to all high school seniors who are US citizens who will be enrolling at an eligible institution (which are listed on the website). The sweepstakes began on October 1, 2018 and ends on January 31, 2019 for the last drawing. Go to scholarship.collegecovered.com to enter.

 

OHM Diversity Scholarship - This program is committed to the academic success of women and minority students who are planning to enroll in a STEM program or other field of practice of OHM Advisors. Students must be a woman or a minority, be a high school senior, planning to enroll in a STEM program or other field of practice as specified by OHM, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the time of application (this is beneficial but not mandatory). Students must fill out an application form along with a 1 page essay based on the question listed on the application, must submit at least two years of academic transcripts, and the submissions must be emailed to scholarships@ohm-advisors.com. This is a $1000 scholarship and applications are available in guidance. The deadline for application is February 15, 2019.

 

Dolphin Research Center Training Institute – The DRC Training Institute offers an Occupational Associate’s Degree in Marine Mammal Behavior, Care and Training. Established in 2012, DRCTI was conceived in response to the limited availability of licensed and accredited professional educational programs that prepare individuals for careers regarding the behavior, care and training of marine mammals. Dixie Youth Scholarship Program This program is open to high school seniors who have participated in a Dixie Boys Baseball Program and plan on pursuing a degree at a university. Students must fill out the application, have your parents fill out the financial statement form, include two letters of recommendation, include a statement of participation by a league official, include a copy of your high school transcript w/ACT, and a personal essay. These are $1500 scholarship awards and the deadline is March 1, 2019. Application are available in guidance.

 

National Youth Leadership Forum Medicine This program will be held in the summer of 2019. If you wish to be nominated for this program ask your counselor to do so by November 30, 2018

 

NOVEMBER 16, 2018

 

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga - The Majorie Watson Mathematics Scholarship is intended for an incoming freshman that intends to major in mathematics. This is a $5000 schoarship with $2000 for the freshman year and $1000 every other year. Application material will include : a letter of application affirming an interest in a mathematics degree, two letters of recommendation affirm the applicant’s mathematical ability, at least one of which must be from a recent math teacher, and supporting materials such as high school transcripts including ACT. Maintaining this scholarship requires a 3.0 overall GPA and a 3.5 math GPA at the end of the year. The application deadline is March 15, 2019. Application materials must be sent to Watson Mathematics Scholarship Committee, Mathematics Department 6956, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, 615 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37403.

 

Flavorful Future Scholarship - This scholarship is awarded by Sparkling Ice Makers. Students must be a US Citizen, must be a high school senior, must have a GPA of at least a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, and be enrolling in a fall vocational, 2 year or 4 year college program. Apply at flavorfulfutures.com the deadline is February 15, 2019. The Sparkling Ice® Flavorful Futures Scholarship Program awards 5 scholarships of $5000 each. Eligible applicants who complete the online application process will be evaluated based on academic achievement and the creativity of their application, which should showcase what makes them who they are and how they want to contribute their gifts through education. Beta Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Prospective Educator Scholarship This scholarship will be awarded to a female high school student from a Rutherford or Cannon County high school who is planning to major in education. This scholarship will be used for educational expenses during the student’s freshman year of college. Students must begin school in the fall of 2009. The scholarship is in the amount of $200 and is a one time only award. The application are available in guidance the first page must be completed by the applicant, the school record portion should be completed by your counselor, and a copy of the high school transcript must accompany this application. The academic recommendation and high school transcript must be submitted in SEALED envelopes. A brief essay (350-500 words) will be included on one the following topics Why do want to pursue a career in education? Was there a person

or event that inspired you to want to become a teacher? How do you envision yourself as an educator? The deadline for the application is January 15, 2019 by 3:30 PM.

 

MS Scholarship - This scholarship is for students who volunteer their time to helping fight MS. There are 10 annual scholarship available to students who raise at least $500 for MS research. Go to www.msscholarship.org to apply.

Martin Luther King Scholarship This scholarship is open to students who are a resident of a Rutherford County High School, African American US citizen, a student entering college in the fall of 2019. Accepted to a four year college or university, and the student must be able to attend the Honors Award banquet to receive any awards. Students must also have a GPA of at least 3.0 and an ACT score of at least 22 to be eligible. Students must submit applications by certified mail. The deadline is March 2, 2019. NOVEMBER 12, 2018

 

NAPAA Scholarship (National Panhellenic)  - This scholarship is open to all senior girls who plan to attend a college that has National Panhellenic sororities.
The Nashville Area Panhellenic Alumnae Association is proud to offer college scholarships for local high school women, planning to continue their education. Scholarships are offered in conjunction with the practices and principals of the National Panhellenic Conference Foundation. In 2019, we will award seven $1,000 scholarships to exceptional, graduating seniors from Middle Tennessee. For consideration, applicants must be permanent residents of the Metro Nashville, Davidson, Williamson, Sumner, Wilson, or Rutherford county areas.

No commitment to Panhellenic Greek Life is required of scholarship recipients. However, scholarship recipients can only apply for funding towards tuition at universities that are in good standing with the National Panhellenic Conference. 

Scholarships must be applied directly to tuition, school fees, or textbooks.

GE Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program  - This is a scholarship program for high school seniors who demonstrate leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship. To be eligible for this award, applicants

must:demonstrate at school, at the workplace, and within the community the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship;

  • demonstrate strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 grade point average/4.0 scale or equivalent);
  • be citizens of the United States of America;
  • be current high school seniors attending high school in the United States (students living on U.S. Armed Forces base and homeschooled students are also eligible); and
  • plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study toward a bachelor’s degree at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year.

Semifinalists will be required to provide a recommendation from a community leader, such as a high school principal, elected official or executive director of a nonprofit organization, and must provide documentation to certify academic performance and financial need. Finalists will be interviewed via Skype or telephone by a member of the selection committee The deadline is January 4, 2019.

 

Tennessee Technological University Scholarships  - Tennessee Tech offers more than 600 departmental and university scholarships. To be considered you must apply and be admitted to TN Tech which will then open the Eagle Online (the scholarship application). Scholarship applications must be completed by December 15, 2018. Go to tntechn.edu/scholarships for detailed procedures. The following automatic High Flyers Scholarships are available - $2000/yr 3.75 or higher GPA with a 27-28 ACT score, $3000/yr 3.75 or higher GPA with a 29-30 ACT score, $4000/yr 3.75 or higher GPA with a 31-32 ACT score, and $5000/yr 3.75 or higher GPA with a 33-36 ACT score. Students with financial need may also qualify for the Golden Opportunity Grant with a 3.5 GPA or higher and a 24 or higher ACT score.

 

NOVEMBER 2, 2018

 

TENNESSEE CONCRETE ASSOCIATION – This is a high school essay contest for TN. This is open to all high school students 16-18 yrs old, the essay must be typed double-spaced and not exceed 600 words, and must complete an online form to submit essay at www.tnconcrete.org. The essay should demonstrate a student’s awareness of concrete’s role as a building material in homes, commercial buildings, streets, & highways. Entries must be submitted by March 15, 2019 at www.tnconcrete.org.

 

BURGER KING SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is open to graduating high school senior who have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and plan to enroll for the 2019-20 school year. Go to https://www.scholarsapply.org/burgerkingscholars/information.php to apply. Applications are due by December 15, 2018. There are also separate scholarship available to Burger King employees. Dr. Juan Andrede Jr. Scholarship - This scholarship is for $1000 and the deadline is November 30, 2018. The qualifications are as follows: Applicants must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as full-time undergraduate students, in an accredited four-year or two-year institution in the U.S. or U.S. territories, and demonstrate a verifiable need for financial support. At least one parent must be of Hispanic ancestry. Non-U.S. citizens are eligible to apply (DACA or Undocumented). Recipients must also be available to attend the 37th USHLI National Conference in Chicago, IL, from February 14-17, 2019. Sixt Scholarship Program – This scholarship is sponsored by Sixt Rental Cars. Students must be a graduating high school senior and have at least a 3.7 GPA who is planning to enroll in college for the 2019-20 school year. Five $5000 scholarships are available. Jack Diller Education Award - The Nashville Predators Foundation has a Jack Diller Education Award that will be awarded to four deserving students that reside within the Nashville and Middle Tennessee area. Siegel can nominate two male and two female students for this award. Each recipient will receive a scholarship for $2500. This scholarship takes into consideration academic achievement, athletic success, and community involvement. Please see your counselor if you wish to be nominated. The online application will include the application, 2-3 page essay, 2 letters of recommendation, and an official transcript.

 

The Sertoma Club of Nashville - This program is based upon a 300 word essay on the topic “The right and the power to vote. How does it impact our freedom?” Submit your essay to a school representative and get more information at www.nashvillesertomaclub.org. The deadline for essay is January 18, 2019.

 

Calvin College – The Entrada Scholars Program is designed for academically talented ethnic minority youths for entrance to Calvin College. See your counselor if you wish to be nominated.

 

2019 International Aviation Art Contest - Students are eligible for this program if your birthdate is between January 2001 and December 31, 2004. The theme for this year is “My Dream to Fly”. Carson Newman University – Showcase Saturdays which is an open house event will be on October 6, November 3, and February 23. Register at www.cn.edu/visit if you are interested. Eagle Experiences will be held on October 16, March 26, and April 9. Prospective students are paired with a current student who will take them to chapel, class, and lunch followed by a guided campus tour. Register at www.cn.edu/visit if you are interested. Students also can set up individual campus visits through this website.

Middle Tennessee State University - The Human Sciences Department of MTSU is offering two scholarships. The Mary Neal Alexander Scholarship qualifications are as follows: major in the human science program, high school graduate with a 2.5 or higher GPA and an ACT of 25 or higher, must be enrolled full-time each semester, and demonstrate involvement in community and/or church. The Christine & Roddy Memorial Scholarship qualifications are as follows: must be a graduate of Rutherford County schools, major in a human science program, minimum 2.8 GPA or higher and an ACT of 18 or higher, and must be enrolled full-time each semester. Kids Chance of Tennessee - This scholarship opportunity is open to qualified applicants who had a parent suffer a catastrophic, permanently disabling, or fatal injury that is covered by the Tennessee Worker’s Compensation Act. Applicants must be a legal resident of TN, must have the above qualifying circumstances, be not less than 16 or more than 22 years old, the injury or death of the parent must have resulted in a decrease of family earnings which impeded the applicant’s education, applicant must show academic achievement and aptitude, and the applicant must demonstrate financial need. Comcast Leaders and Achievers Program - This scholarship program recognizes students for their community service, academic performance, and leadership skills.

Applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to community service, outstanding qualities in character, integrity, and leadership, be enrolled as a high school senior, reside in a community serviced by Comcast, plan to enroll in a full time undergraduate study program at a two or four year university for the 2019-20 school year, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and demonstrate financial need. American Musical and Dramatic Academy - AMDA is accepting nominations for students planning to pursue postsecondary education for the 2019 school year. Students who are interested in being nominated for this scholarship for their Bachelor of Fine Arts and Conservatory will need to see their counselor to fill out the form. There are two sites for this school (New York & Los Angeles).

 

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga - Students who wish to major in the scientific field may be interested in the following scholarships:

 

The Grote Chemistry Scholarship – This scholarship is available to incoming BS Chemistry majors. The award amount is $3000/yr for 4 years. Students must also meet the following criteria to be eligible: complete a course in chemistry in high school with an A or B average, have a 3.5 GPA overall, earn a composite score of 26 or above on the ACT, and declare chemistry as a major at UTC. Students must be admitted by February 1, 2019 to be eligible a completed Grote scholarship application and two letters of recommendation must be received by the deadline of February 15, 2019. Westbrook Scholarship for Chemistry and Physics – This scholarship is available to incoming BS Chemistry and Physics majors along with other science and engineering students . The award amount is $3000/yr for 4 years. Students must meet the following criteria to be eligible: Students must be accepted for admission to UTC, must have a 3.0 GPA and an ACT of 23 or above, financial need is considered, preference is given to Chemistry & Physics majors, and the award must be used for educational expenses. Middle Tennessee State University – Students with an ACT of 29 or above and a 3.5 GPA or above are encouraged to apply for the Buchanan Fellowship through the MTSU Honors College. This is the highest scholarship given at MTSU. This is a competitive program. To apply go to www.mtsu.edu/honors/buchanan.php the application is online and is due by December 1, 2018. Recovery Village Scholarship - A $1,000 award will be given to a student pursuing a health-related degree program. Areas of study that will be considered include,

but are not limited to, counseling, social work, emergency medicine, pre-med, nursing, psychology (with a focus on addiction counseling or a substance-abuse related field). Applicants must submit an essay no more than 500 words describing why they are passionate about health care, with a focus on substance abuse and mental health. DAR SCHOLARSHIPS - The following scholarships are open to high school seniors:

 

RICHARD AND ELIZABETH DEAN SCHOLARSHIP is a general scholarship and awards two scholarships in the preferred amount of $5,000 each year for up to four consecutive years to graduating high school students. The selection process shall be based on academic merit with an initial 4.0. Renewal is conditional upon maintenance of a GPA of 3.25. This scholarship is renewable only after review and approval of the annual official transcript. The CAROLINE E. HOLT NURSING SCHOLARSHIP is a one-time $2,500 scholarship awarded to three students who are in financial need and are accepted and enrolled into an accredited school of nursing. The OCCUPATIONAL/PHYSICAL THERAPY DAR SCHOLARSHIP in the amount of $2,000, is awarded to two students who are in financial need and have been accepted or are attending an accredited school of occupational therapy (including art, music, or physical therapy). Child of a current DAR member The LILLIAN AND ARTHUR DUNN DAR SCHOLARSHIP is a $2,500 scholarship awarded for up to four years to two well qualified, deserving sons and daughters of members of the NSDAR for four years of college. Renewal is conditional upon maintenance of a GPA of 3.25. Outstanding recipients pursuing graduate study may reapply each year for an additional period of up to four years of study. Native American Scholarships

 

The DAR AMERICAN INDIAN SCHOLARSHIP is awarded to help Native Americans students of any age, any tribe and in any state striving to get an education at the

undergraduate or graduate levels. Undergraduate students are given preference. Applicants must be Native Americans (proof of American Indian blood is required by letter or proof papers) in financial need and have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher. There will be no exceptions. This is a one-time $4,000 award. The FRANCES CRAWFORD MARVIN AMERICAN INDIAN SCHOLARSHIP is awarded once a year to one student. A candidate for this scholarship must be enrolled full time at a 2- or 4-Year College or university. Applicants must be Native Americans and proof of American Indian blood is required by letter or proof papers. Students must demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, and have a 3.25 GPA or higher. A recipient may reapply for this scholarship and be considered along with other members of the applicant pool. UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE AT CHATTANOOGA – Admission to UTC is automatic with a 2.85 GPA & 18 ACT or a 2.5 GPA & 21 ACT. September 27, 2018 UTC will be at the Embassy Suites from 4:30-7:30 to admit students on the spot with a transcript & test scores. The fee will be waived that night but you must apply no later than 48 hrs previously. Go to www.utc.edu/admissions to apply the fee is normally $30. Apply early awards start in November and continue until money is exhausted however the priority deadline is December 1, 2018. Official awards can be accepted online. November 1st housing will open. UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE KNOXVILLE - You can apply through the common application or go to vip.utk.edu to apply. Students will need one required essay, a personal statement (not required but recommended) & high school transcript with test scores. Students will also need an academic recommendation for competitive scholarships and the Honors program. UTK does superscore the ACT and weights your GPA. There are separate admittance requirements for the following academic majors: Architecture, Interior Architecture, Nursing, Engineering, and Music.

 

The application deadline for UTK is November 1, 2018. Students who wish to apply for scholarships should apply early because you must invited to join the Honors program or for competitive scholarships. The deadline for these scholarships is December 15, 2018. UTK will take the December ACT score for the Volunteer Scholarship which is the main freshman scholarship. May 1st , 2018 is when enrollment confirmation at UTK will be required. UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA - The following scholarships are available to out of state students at UA. The Capstone scholarship is available to students with a 27 ACT and a 3.5 GPA $6000/per yr. The Collegiate scholarship is available to students with a 28 ACT and a 3.5 GPA $8000/per yr. The Foundation in Excellence scholarship is available to students with a 29 ACT and a 3.5 GPA $15000/per yr. The UA Scholar is available to students 30-31 ACT and at least a 3.5 GPA will be named a UA scholars and will receive $20000/per yr. The Presidential scholarship is available to students with a 32-36 ACT and at least a 3.5 GPA will receive $26000/per yr. The Presidential Elite is a scholarship for students with a 4.0 GPA and a 36 ACT will receive the value of tuition for four years, one year of oncampus housing at regular room rate, $1000 stipend for four years, $2000 allowance for use in summer research or international study, and a $2000 Super Store book scholarship. The National Merit Finalist package contains a package of the value of tuition for up to 5 years, four years of undergraduate housing at regular room rate, $3500 per year stipend for four years, one time allowance of $2000 for use in summer research or international study, and a $2000 Super Store book scholarship.
