FEBRUARY 16, 2018

 

University of Tennessee (Summer Veterinary Program) – This program is currently accepting applications. Students must be a resident of TN and enrolled in a TN high school, be a current high school junior or senior, be at least 16 years old by June 4, 2018, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, be available for full-time employment between June 4 – July 13, 2018, and have not previously participated in this summer program. Applicants will need an application, an official high school transcript, and three reference letters. Applications must be submitted by March 9, 2018. Go to www.vet.utk.edu/summerexperience to apply. Mississippi State University - Spring Preview days will take place this year on March 19th and March 26th. This is an opportunity for students and their parents to have a fun informative day. The cost is $10. Go to springpreview.msstate.edu to register.

 

Regions Bank - The Violet, William, David, and Ernest Hampton Memorial Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships of $1500 per year. To be eligible students must be a high school senior, a resident of TN, have financial need, and plan to attend postsecondary education. Please see your counselor if you wish to be nominated for this scholarship. The deadline to be nominated is April 1, 2018.

 

FEBRUARY 9, 2018

 

Berea College – This award is available to high school JUNIOR who are African-American, demonstrate financial need, have a GPA between 3.25-4.0 and an ACT of 20-30, and has outstanding qualities in leadership and perseverance. If you wish to be nominated for this award see your counselor. The deadline is February 28, 2018.

 

Middle Tennessee State University - This scholarship is open to students who will be majoring in Biology and have a demonstrated interest in the life sciences with career goals in biological sciences. Students must have a minimum composite ACT of 25 and a minimum GPA of 3.5. Application are available in guidance they will need to be emailed by the application deadline of March 31, 2018.

 

Better Business Bureau - This award is the “student of integrity” award and is open to the JUNIOR class. Please see your counselor in order to be nominated the deadline is March 23, 2018. The award is based on leadership, community service, academic, and an essay.

 

Delta Sigma Theta - This scholarship is the Dorothy L. Stevens Memorial Scholarship. Students must complete an application packet, have a 3.0 or higher GPA, an ACT score of 22 or higher, two letters of recommendation in the community, one letter of recommendation from a teacher and an official transcript. Students must be a female African-American senior. Applications are in guidance. The deadline is March 31, 2018.

 

FEBRUARY 2, 2018

 

Questbridge College Prep Scholars Program – This program is for academically outstanding, low income junior students. Students must also demonstrate character and a motivation to succeed. This program offers special awards, recognition, and an early advantage in applying to college. The application is due by March 21, 2018. Go to www.questbridge.org to sign up for this program.

 

Alpha Kappa Alpha scholarship  - There a few scholarships through this organization. To apply students must be : African American male or female, be enrolled as a senior in Rutherford County schools, have a GPA of at least 3.0, have at least a 21 on the ACT, and plan to attend a four year university. The applicants must complete the application, provide a high school transcript, two recommendation letters, a typed essay of 300-500 words, and a school counselor evaluation. All of these are included in the application packet. If you are interested pick up an application in guidance, Applications must be postmarked by March 31, 2018.

 

The Community Foundation – This organization offers several scholarships and students must only complete one application to be eligible. Go to https://www.cfmt.org/grants-scholarships/scholarships/ to apply for scholarships and search for different ones through this organization. The deadline to apply is March 15, 2018. Rutherford Works Internships  - These internships are paid during the summer.

To be eligible to apply for an internship, you must: · Be a resident of Rutherford County and eligible to work in the US · Be entering your senior year of high school · Have reliable transportation to and from the training and job site · Submit two letters of recommendation with your online application · Submit a current resume with your online application.

Regions Scholarship - Regions bank is offering 30 Regions Riding Forward scholarship to high school seniors through a competitive essay contest about inspirational African Americans. Students must write an essay about an African-American individual who has been an inspiration in the student’s life and discuss the contributions of the African American individual who has served to inspire and motivate the student. JANUARY 26, 2018

 

Youth Leadership Rutherford – Applications are available for upcoming seniors only in guidance. This program involves students meeting with business members in the community and other students from Rutherford County schools. Applications must be received at the Rutherford Chamber of Commerce by February 26, 2018.

 

Middle Tennessee Association of Realtors – This scholarship is open to students attending a 2 or 4 year college in (Bedford, Cannon, Coffee, Franklin, Grundy, Marion, Moore, or Rutherford) counties. The students must also be a resident of one of these counties. This scholarship can be used for any expenses incurred attending college. Applications are available in guidance. The deadline is April 6, 2018. Scholarship amounts are up to $1000 per year.

 

Sheltia S. Murray Scholarship – This scholarship is open to a student who will be a freshman for the Fall semester of 2018. Students must have a 3.0 GPA and a minimum ACT score of 22. All application must include: one sealed recommendation letter, ACT scores, high school transcript, and an essay. Two recipients will be notified on June 18, 2018. This scholarship is $1000 for one year. The deadline for application is April 28, 2018. You can submit your application online at murrayscholarship.org or mail your scholarship to Sheltia S. Bootstraps Foundation Scholarship – This scholarship is open to students who have “pulled themselves up by their boostraps” (overcoming hardship & adversity to achieve their goals). Our school can nominate one student for this award. Eligibility requirements include: Must be a high school senior in Davidson, Cheatham, Robertson,Rutherford, Sumner, Williamson or Wilson county;
  • Must succeed in academics (not necessarily a 4.0 grade average), and demonstrate academic performance suggesting that the student is likely to succeed in college;
  • Must show an ability to cope with and overcome difficulties, problems, or obstacles as well as seize opportunities;
  • Must have a desire and a plan to continue his or her education and have pursued other scholarships, grants, loans, etc.;
  • Must show involvement in school and community activities and demonstrate leadership qualities;
  • Must have a high level of personal integrity.

Students must complete an essay based on Why do you deserve the bootstrap award? Counselors will review the essays and choose one nominee. Please give your counselor the essay by February 26, 2018 to be nominated. If you have any questions go to www.bootstraps.org for more information.

 

Jubran M. And Judith H. Wakim Chemistry Scholarship - This scholarship is open to students who are interested in majoring in Chemistry at MTSU. The deadline for this scholarship is February 15, 2018 by 4:30 pm. Application can be filled out online or printed and mailed to Melissa Hougton, Department of Chemistry, 1301 E. Semper Fidelis All American Program – This program is open to students who meet the following criteria: Students chosen as Semper Fidelis All-Americans must first meet these minimum requirements: • Be a Junior in High School • Have GPA of at least a 3.5 • Be active in community service • Play a competitive team sport for your school • Hold a student or community leadership position • Secure a recommendation from a teacher, coach, community leader, etc.

We the Students Scholarship - This is an essay competition for high school students for them to share their perspectives on a trending topic. The topic this year is what role the government should play in monitoring internet content. The essay should be between 500-800 words. Sigma Gamma Rho ­ - This scholarship is open to students who have obtained high scholastic achievement as well as accomplishments in community, high school, and church activities. The students will be required to write a 150-200 word essay describing your accomplishments, high school transcript, and completed application. The deadline is February 19, 2018. Applications are available in guidance.

 

Rutherford County Job Shadow Day  - This year the Job Shadow Day will be March 20. The deadline for applications is February 5, 2018. Students must meet the following criteria to apply: must be a high school senior, must have fewer than 5 UNEXCUSED absences, must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher, and students can have no discipline or suspension problems.

 

Redstone Federal Credit Union – This scholarship is available to current Redstone Federal Credit Union members who are planning to begin college in Fall 2018. The following schools have been designated for scholarships : Alabama A&M, J.F. Drake state community and technical college, The University of Alabama at Huntsville, MTSU, Oakwood University, Calhoun Community College, & Athens State University. Stanford University

A pre-collegiate studies program is available to students in grades 9-12. There are programs in Sports Business, Humanities, Arts and Artificial Intelligence. Go to spcs.stanford.edu/find-yourself for more details.

 

University of Georgia

 UGA is accepting applicants for their VetCAMP2018 which is scheduled for June 17-23, 2018. This program is offered to current 10th, 11th and 12th grade students. It is designed for future veterinarians. The application is available at http://vet/uga.edu/academic/vetcamp. The deadline for all application materials is January 26, 2018. The cost of attending the program is $900 which covers lodging, meals, instruction, and social activities. Financial assistance is available to those with need. Athena Scholarship Program 

This program honors the achievements of women in Nashville and surrounding counties with scholarship opportunities. The Nashville ATHENA program will award scholarship to high school seniors to continue their education. The submission deadline is January 11, 2018. Centre College KY 

This college offers several full tuition scholarships. The Brown Fellows Program is open to students with high leadership potential. The Grissom Scholars Program awards to high need, first-generation students who are driven to succeed academically, have potential leadership abilities, and possess strong character and compassion. The Lincoln Scholars Program is open to student who aspire to change the world through service. If you wish to be nominated for any of these programs see your counselor before you leave for Christmas break. You may apply even without a nomination at https://admission.centre.edu/register/PremierScholarship. These applications are due by Janjuary 20, 2018. You must also apply for admission through the Common Application by January 15, 2018.

University of Tennessee Knoxville 

The TICKLE College of Engineering is sponsoring two summer engineering programs for rising 10&12th grade students. Each program is a one week residential program. Engineering VOLunteers for 10th grade students engage in chemistry, ACT prep, engineering challenges, and tour an engineering industrial plant. All eVOL applicants must have taken at least one standardized test. High School Introducation to Engineering Systems for 12th graders HITES12 – This program is for 12th graders to engage in hands on engineering fundamentals activities, college life sessions, compete in engineering challenges and tour an engineering industrial plant. Martin Luther King Scholarship 

This scholarship is open to African American seniors who are a resident of Rutherford County, minimum 3.0 GPA and a minimum 22 ACT, a high school graduate enrolling in a 4 year college in the fall semester, and the students must attend the Honors Award Banquet to be eligible to receive awards. All applications must be submitted by certified mail and the application deadline is March 3, 2018 to turn in all parts of the application. Applications are available in guidance.

University of Chattanooga

The Grote Chemistry Scholarship program is open to any freshman at UTC planning to major in Chemistry. To be eligible students must complete a course in high school chemistry with an A or B, have a GPA of 3.5 or above, have an ACT score of 26 or above, and declare chemistry as their major at UTC. This scholarship is valued at $12,000 ($3000 per year for four years). Students must be admitted to UTC and a completed Grote application and two letters of recommendation for the Grote Chemistry Scholarship are due by February 15, 2018. NAPPA  (Nashville Area Panhellenic Alumnae Association) Scholarship

This scholarship is open to high school senior girls. To be eligible students must be a current senior girl & must be planning to attend a college with a Panhellenic or NPHC sororities. Five $1000 scholarships will be awarded. Applications are available in guidance.

University of Alabama (Blount Scholars Program) 

This program is a focused in the liberal arts as a four year living and learning community. It features small seminar style classes, extensive exposure to faculty, and an integrated interdisciplinary curriculum leading to a minor in Liberal Arts. Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship 

This scholarship is available to a minority high school senior who plans to attend a four year college, shows leadership potential, demonstrates a dedication to community service, shows evidence of financial need, a US citizen, and a minimum composite of 21 on the ACT. Mississippi State University (College of Education) 

Mississippi State offers the Mississippi Excellence in Teaching Program Scholarship. This scholarship is designed to recruit and prepare teacher candidates for the education profession. Qualified applicants must have a 28 or above on the ACT and a 3.5 GPA. Scholars receive an award covering full tuition, books, room and board, and expenses for four years of attendance along with a one time technology stipend. Jack Diller Education Award Scholarship 

This scholarship is sponsored by the Nashville Predators Foundation. Siegel can nominate two males and two females for this award. Each recipient will receive a scholarship for $2500. Students must complete the online application, sign an eligibility form, taking into consideration academic achievement, athletic success, and community involvement students will be required to write a 2-3 page essay explaining why they are a deserving candidate, two letters of recommendation, and an official transcript are required. US Presidential Scholars Program 

This program was established to recognize and honor some of the nation’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors. Tennessee will recommend twenty high school seniors to represent our state in this program. This is based on academic success, perseverance, and

exceptional ACT scores. The application emphasizes academic achievement, leadership skills, community involvement, overcoming obstacles, and strong writing skills. Students must complete the online application by November 15, 2017. Please see your counselor if you wish to be nominated ASAP.

 

Concordia College (Alabama)

Kyle William Kiihnl Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is a memorial to a Houston High School student who lost his life in a car accident to a driver who fell sleep. The applicant must be a graduating senior in the Class of 2018 and finalists will be interviewed by the scholarship committee. Applicants must have a cover letter, and a 400 word minimum essay on one of these topics: explain why Maggie’s Law is a major step forward in getting us to realize the seriousness of driving sleepy, describe a drowsy driving incident experienced by you, a friend, or family member. What led up to the incident and how could it have been prevented?, or should drowsy driving by prosecuted like drunk driving or texting while driving? Also attach an acceptance letter to college or trade school. The scholarship packet must be postmarked no later than February 23, 2018 and be mailed to Kyle Kihnl Memorial Scholarship, 1886 Penshurst Drive, Colliersville, TN 38017. The scholarship committee will review essays and the recipient will be announced on March 23, 2018.

John F. Kennedy Profiles in Courage Essay Contest

This scholarship contest is open to students in 9-12th grade. Students must write an essay describing and analyzing an act of political courage by a US elected official who served during or after 197 the year of JFK’s birth. The essay may focus on an issue at the local, state, or national level. Students must use at least five varied sources. The essays must be a minimum of 700 but no more than 1,000 words. United State Senate Youth Program

This is an opportunity for juniors and seniors. This senate is held in Washington DC March 3-10, 2018. Go to ussenateyouth.org for more details.

National Youth Science Camp - This is an honors program for two high school high achieving students from each state in the nation and around the world. This residential summer experience is held in West Virginia. This includes lectures and seminars, Directed studies, and adventure programs. To apply go to http://apply.nysc.org.

 

Tennessee Academic Decathlon Competition

University of North Georgia

These are Army ROTC scholarship that are offered through the University of North Georgia. General Army ROTC Scholarships, STEM Majors, Arabic and Chinese Language majors, and Guarnteed Reserve Force Duty Scholarships are available. Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program

This scholarship is open to students with a GPA of 2.8 or higher, a high school senior, plans to attend a technical school or college in the US, possesses demonstrated leadership abilities, and demonstrates a commitment to community service. This is a $1000 scholarship

and the deadline is November 30, 2017. See your counselor if you wish to be nominated.

This scholarship is based on writing an essay following the guidelines attached and the topics included. You are required to write an essay consisting of 900-1000 words, following the MS Word Format. All work must be composed in English language, and you are required to mention all your contact info on a separate page. Bethel University

The competition, which will be held in November this year, is a two-day event where students are tested in academic ability. The winner of the competition will earn full tuition, room and board. A runner-up will earn full tuition. All others who compete will be considered for Bethel’s other institutional grants. In order to be considered for the Hendrix Competition, you must be a high school senior with at least a 3.25 GPA and a 23/*1050 or above ACT/SAT score. The winner and runner up must maintain a 3.6 GPA to renew the scholarship each year.*The 1050 SAT score is a combination of Critical Reading and Math only. Students must first apply to Bethel to be eligible for this program, apply for this competition, and submit an official transcript & ACT score. The competition will be held November 10 & 11, 2017.

 

MTEMC Sharing Change Scholarship 

MTEMC is funding 10 $2000 scholarship for students in the cooperative’s area. Interested persons must be an MTEMC member or

dependent of an MTEMC member. The scholarship funds must be used to attend a Tennessee 2- or 4-year accredited college or trade school. Applicants must be an entering freshmen or currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student. Scholarship applicants will be judged on a point system including a financial needs assessment, current grade point average, involvement in community service, leadership roles and their score on the essay. The applicants with the top points will be the winners. Applicants will complete a one-page essay stating how the scholarship funds will benefit their personal goals. The deadline is March 15, 2018. Parentinn’s Scholarship

University of Virginia 

Any student who would like to be nominated for the Jefferson Scholars Foundation please see your counselor. Nominations are completed by both school officials and students and include a scholastic report, extracurricular activities, recommendation letters and two essays.

    The Scholarship

         Thomas Jefferson’s University of Virginia is a place where producing leaders for a self-governing people has always been a primary goal. The           undergraduate scholarship program has been attracting and cultivating undergraduate leaders since 1980, providing them sufficient financial              support so that they are free to develop their talents and to use them for the good of the University community.

        Award - Intended to cover the entire cost of attendance for four years at the University of Virginia plus coverage of the supplemental                          enrichment experiences

        Total value of the scholarship exceeds:

· $280,000 for non-Virginian students

· $150,000 for Virginian students

The Jefferson Scholar Stipend in 2017-2018 will exceed:

· $62,000 for non-Virginian students

· $31,500 for Virginian students

· Jefferson Scholars’ stipend includes tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, board, and personal expenses.

Enrichment - The scholarship also includes an extensive enrichment program which supports and nurtures these students throughout their four years.

 

Tennessee Concrete Association

This high school essay contest is open to all students 16-18. The essay must be less than 600 words. The topic and the entry form are available in guidance or at www.tnconcrete.org. Prizes are $250, $100, and $50.

 

Davidson College

Any student interested in attending Davidson and applying for their John W. Belk Scholarship should see their counselor in guidance. This scholarship recognizes and rewards students of demonstrated intellectual and personal achievement and significant leadership ability. The scholarship is valued at $63,903 for the 2017-18 school year.

 

American Musical and Dramatic Academy (New York) & College and Conservatory of Performing Arts (Los Angeles)

This school will be having a National Audition Tour for admisstions.
